Near the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the great technological advances in the field of informatics, which create new opportunities for growth, welfare and quality of life, have become part of our everyday life. In this context, we would like to present the electronic portal of the Hellenic Maritime Museum with an objective to create an effective means of communication and provide improved services to our web visitors. The objective of this website is to help students, researchers or even enthusiasts of the Greek Maritime history find edited informational material. We believe that this effort gives both our members and the public an excellent opportunity to explore the Museum collections. During its long course, the Hellenic Maritime Museum has gathered memorabilia and relics which set off the Greek maritime past, project it to the present and allow for the planning of the sea future both with regard to defense and the merchant marine. Our ambition is to connect the visitors of our website to the relics of the glorious Greek sea history. A history which has proved itself by means of a Navy that has never lowered its Flag and a Merchant Marine which has found its father in the face of the Homeric Ulysses, while, in terms of size, it nowadays holds the first position in the list of merchant marine fleets worldwide.
