Magazines form another particular department of the library collection. There is a considerable number of Hellenic and foreign magazines, of mostly maritime contents. Magazines are classified alphabetically, according to their titles. There are complete series of “Naftiki Epitheorisi”, “Naftiki Ellada”, “Naftika Chronika”, and other magazines, while the indexing of “Naftiki Epitheorisi”, “Argo”, “International Journal of Maritime History” magazines and the newspaper “London Gazette”, has been completed.
The classification of books, pamphlets and off-prints, is according to the DEWEY decimal system. There are catalogues for authors, Hellene and foreign, for collective bodies and for thematic terms and headings. Apart from the printed catalogue, it is also possible to retrieve information by computer. The computerization of all library material has been completed.
We tried, and believe we succeeded, so that the Museum’s library would not be a static cell, but to provide bibliographical information to users, as well as electronic information by computer, and to continuously enrich its collection through donations by friends and also through purchases.
The library is not a lending library. It operates as a reading room for its members and whoever else may be using its books and magazines during the Museum’s days and hours of operation.
